The NPTR Closed Group is an online, Facebook community where members share a common interest: trail running. Members are able to solicit advice, share news, discuss issues and simply communicate to one another about trail running. We are a group of individuals with varying perspectives and ideas. Please keep in mind: if the content becomes irritating or uninteresting, individuals can remove themselves from the group. Additionally, settings within Facebook can be altered so that notifications for posts within the NPTR Closed Group are eliminated. You are in this group by choice. If you wish to learn about the weekly group runs without all the “chitter chatter and pictures,” perhaps the NPTR Public Page is the better option. That said, we do have guidelines that aim to make the Closed Group more enjoyable for the majority of members.
1. Keep the group’s common interest (trail running) in mind when you are posting. Examples of relevant posts include:
3. If you are unsure about the content you are about to post, or how it may be interpreted, it is best not to post it in the NPTR group.
4. Be respectful of one another. A dialogue requires understanding and peaceful engagement. Be open to learning and share your views in a way that allows for differences in points of view.
5. If you stumble across content within the Closed Group that you find troubling or offensive, please pursue the following options:
8. Bullying and harassment are not permitted and will not be tolerated. Posts that are reported as bullying and harassment will be subject to the process outlined in #5 above.
9. If a person receives 3 warnings due to offensive or hurtful posts, the person shall be removed from the Closed FB Group.
10. Egregious violations of the Community Posting Standards are subject to immediate deletion by an Admin or Moderator. Examples of egregious violations include, but are not limited to: pornography, hate speech and graphic violence. A screen cap of the post will be taken prior to deletion and saved and shared w/ Admin/Moderators.
11. If there is an especially egregious violation of the guidelines, any individual within the Closed FB Group can request that action be taken above and beyond a “warning.” In this instance, the Admin(s), Moderator(s) and Board of Directors will vote to determine appropriate action(s). (Motion carries by a simple majority vote)
12. Race directors are limited to one promotional post (even road races) and one additional promotional post the week of their race. Any FB Events that are created using the NPTR Closed Page to promote a race are subject to scrutiny. Race director may be asked to delete the event. If RD does not delete the event within 1 hour of request, Admin / Moderator may delete on behalf of RD.
13. Photos - when posting multiple photos of an event, please consider either creating or using a photo album on our page for your photos, placing your photos under a single thread, or linking to your own photo directory (flickr, etc.) thereby avoiding clutter.
14. Consider adding the GPS coordinates to your pop-up (group run) posts to help others find the starting point.
1. Keep the group’s common interest (trail running) in mind when you are posting. Examples of relevant posts include:
- Discussions of group runs and pop-up runs.
- Discussions of NPTR organized or sanctioned events.
- Seeking advice about gear, training, trails.
- Running resources and inspiration.

5. If you stumble across content within the Closed Group that you find troubling or offensive, please pursue the following options:
- Contact the “poster” and communicate to him/her how their post makes you feel. Perhaps the poster did not fully understand the impact of their post, or perhaps you misunderstood their intent. Try to make it a learning opportunity.
- If contacting the poster does not resolve the issue, use the “Report to an Admin” function, which is available on all posts.
- Perform an initial review. If there is clearly no FB Policy violation, no further action will be taken.
- If the post does violate FB policy, Admin will remove or lock the reported post and notify the person that their post has been removed/locked and is being reviewed by the Admin team. This notification will include a reminder that a follow up/screen shot post while review is pending will result in removal from the FB group.
- Consult the Admin team to determine whether the post violates FB policy and should remain locked/deleted.
- Notify the person of the Admin team’s decision.
8. Bullying and harassment are not permitted and will not be tolerated. Posts that are reported as bullying and harassment will be subject to the process outlined in #5 above.
